Arrow Senior Living Demonstrates Acts of Kindness During Be Kind to Humankind Week

Kindness is defined as doing something toward yourself and others, motivated by genuine desire to make a positive difference. Kindness is shown to increase self-esteem and mood, decrease stress levels, improve relationships, slow aging, and is accompanied by emotional warmth. Research shows kindness and mental health are deeply connected.

We at Arrow Senior Living know that one act of kindness can lead to many more. Kindness is contagious and it begins with you!

Kindness, to me, means being caring, compassionate, respectful, and willing to help others, even when there is no benefit for you. Some ways to encourage kindness and lift spirits are with a smile and by saying “hello,” giving a genuine compliment, being there to listen to someone, offering to help someone, and staying connected to loved ones.

We can help to inspire others to spread kindness by performing random acts of kindness and leading by example. I have witnessed the simple act of an employee taking a few minutes to spend one-on-one quality time with a resident that is not typically social. That time is followed by a smile on that resident’s face and a brighter day.
