In the wake of the pandemic, the senior living industry was compelled to rethink its strategies and business models. This was the central theme of the panel discussion at the 2023 Argentum Senior Living Executive Conference. Among the panelists was Arrow Senior Living CEO Stephanie Harris, whose insights into the company’s innovative approach to change and adaptation underscored Arrow’s position as a unique industry leader.

The pandemic, as Harris put it, “blew up” the industry “overnight.” This upheaval, however, also presented an opportunity for senior living operators to reassess and reinvent their practices. Harris emphasized the need to consider the “new consumer, the new employee,” and the shifting expectations brought about by the pandemic. This has led to a necessary shift in the business model of senior living, a shift that Arrow Senior Living is actively embracing. 

Harris highlighted the company’s innovative approach to technology. Earlier this year, Arrow Senior Living held a hackathon that resulted in the launch of a new app, The Archer. Integrated into the existing Arrow App, The Archer allows residents to view schedules or menus and communicate with one another. This initiative exemplifies Arrow’s commitment to leveraging technology to enhance the resident experience and drive innovation in the industry. 

The panel discussion also touched on the future of payment sources in senior living. While the industry has traditionally resisted taking federal reimbursements, the current financial climate necessitates a new way of thinking. Arrow Senior Living, along with other operators, is considering how to demonstrate its value to the healthcare industry and potentially tap into federal funding.
